The extensive and catastrophic potential faced in responding to oil spills highlights the need for transparent decision-making, rapid action, and effective communication. In order to help understand the environmental management decision-making process, a group of students from the BCGC have written the report below which identifies key variables that influence the fate of a marine oil spill. Thier work also highlights future research needs and explains how response technology options can be used to minimize the impact of an oil spill on the ecosystem.
